In line with the timely and crucial global theme of the United Nations Environment Programme's 2026 World Environment Day celebrations, “URGENT CLIMATE ACTION”, and on the occasion of World Environment Day which falls annually on June 05, the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with affiliated government agencies and media institutions, has declared a National Environment Week from May 30 to June 05, centering on the theme of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, restoring ecosystems, and managing rising temperatures in Sri Lanka.

During this week, various daily programs have been organized across numerous areas, including attitude promotion, cleanliness, air pollution control, biodiversity conservation, water conservation, and coastal cleaning.

Simultaneously with National Environment Week, the Registrar General's Department also organized an awareness program for department officials aimed at environmental cleanliness and attitude promotion. This program was held on June 04, 2026, at the Registrar General's Department Head Office Auditorium, with the participation of the Registrar General and other officials. This initiative received support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the resource contribution was provided by Dr. Kalinga Padmalal of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
